About Sarah Jane Bentley Foundation

Our Foundation

The Sarah Jane Bentley Foundation is a 501c3 substance use disorder treatment and recovery services organization. Whether it's substance abuse counseling, HIV /AIDS referrals, or mental health assessments, we will do whatever it takes to offer guidance and hope to you and your loved ones. Our network of partners works closely with our patients to establish treatment plans and to create solutions to pave the way towards positive change. Coupled with our extensive experience and commitment to affordable treatments, our programs see higher annual completion rates than similar programs worldwide.

Mission

1. We strive to provide the highest quality, behaviorally-based mental health and drug and alcohol therapeutic outpatient services to individuals, couples, children, and adolescents in the most caring environment possible.

2. We provide outreach services to raise awareness on the needs of the community, the benefits of treatment and counseling to aid and diminish the stigmatization of those who receive substance abuse services.

3. We offer presentations, workshops, lecture series, and training in areas that relate to the work, goals, and needs of clients served and professionals who provide substance care.

4. We engage in other activities that further the interests of individuals served and targeted by the organization, their families, and/or professionals treating individuals with a variety of issues and related disorders. We also engage in research focused on substance abuse and other related disorders.

A Brief Statement of the Organization

Our treatment philosophy is based on the Trans-Theoretical Model (TTM) of behavioral change. We strive to meet clients where they are and seek to identify appropriate potential strategies for change. We believe that clients are able to internally determine their readiness to change.

Our Approach

  • Applies motivational strategies to mobilize client resources
  • Encourages self-empowerment and self-advocacy
  • Recognizes that ownership of one's own health encourages a stronger desire to change than traditional methods. In addition, we utilize cognitive/ Behavioral therapy (CBT) as a form of Psychotherapy.

Herman Bentley's Bio

Mr. Herman L. Bentley is the CEO and Founder of the Sarah Jane Bentley Foundation. Herman has a passion for helping struggling adults. Having experienced the effects of alcoholism/drug abuse and mental health illness in his family, he has deep compassion for individuals who are impacted by the pain and chaos of behavioral health challenges. Herman has been in recovery for over 24 years and is intimately familiar with 12-Step work, as well as support structures in addiction treatment. In 1997, he participated in the design and development of a treatment program to help teens and their families recover from substance abuse issues. Herman saw the need to create a program that would 1) help adolescents achieve the goal of abstinence, 2) reconcile broken families and 3) recover from the impact of substance use disorder and teen self-destructive behaviors.

Herman founded SJBF to assist adults who suffer from substance abuse and other mental health disorders. Herman has been involved in educating and empowering professionals, counselors, and the community on substance abuse issues and trends. Herman holds a Master's degree from Lincoln University in Human Services and is studying for the Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC).
